Epa to probe dublin asbestos dumping
Sunday 28 July, 2010: An investigation into the dumping of contaminated materials from a plant in Cork has revealed that toxic and hazardous chemicals, including asbestos, were stored in a nearby shipping container.
Inspector David Fagan described the condition of the shipping container in the Port of Cork as „u더킹카지노nsafe“.
„This container appears to have had a number of components removed in the last week and I believe they should not have been stored in the area.
„The container can be seen to be filled with contaminated soil, potentially resulting in mould growth on the outside and a number of other problems. There is also a number of mould spores.
„This is potentially very dangerous as it contains substances with highly toxic properties. It is likely to spread to the surrounding areas and, if it does happen there could be significant health problems and environmental impact for the public.“
Detective Superintendent Aileen Kelly said the condition of the container was described as „unsafe“ by an engineer, which may have contributed to its removal. She said there was an investigaapronxtion going on to determine if there are further hazards involved, including potential asbestos exposure.
„When we find out there is an investigation going on we will then decide whether it was an accident or not,“ she said.
The container is being stored at the port in Blanchardstown.
„We have got a worker that has been working in that environment for about three years. He can walk around this area, he has seen this stuff dumped there and he knows what it is like,“ Mr Kelly said.
„It’s not just this site in Cork. It’s a very, very safe environment. We have got a lot of companies from all over the world that have come into this area to dump stuff, but at the moment there are a number of the s우리카지노maller ones that dump it.
„There is no need for it to be put anywhere.“
